It's my observation,
that the people or person involved in this.
Know little or nothing,
about the history of why GIMP is called GIMP.
This information is available.
Which makes it seem to me,
that this bit of info wasn't even reviewed,
or perhaps it was intentionally omitted,
for whatever reason.

You be the judge...

I think the question some of you need to ask is which direction Partha and samj intend to go - stick with the GIMP development or wander off down the Glimpse fork?

What do you know that we don't paynekj? Please do tell, so we are not ignorant about it any longer.

sallyanne, I wasn't implying that I know something, I was just suggesting that someone checks with Partha and samj to see what they think, as it would be important to those who use their GIMP builds.

As I don't use either of their builds, I don't think it's up to me to ask them.

Me, I'm sticking to the GIMP road, unless the Glimpse fork does something radically different that I consider an improvement (and I don't mean the change of name)

The "issues" on their GitHub project elicit much mirth...

I propose:

Personally, I feel if I were a new user that I would rush to learn the software if it was named:
GNIMP.

(The . is silent.) Frankly, I feel the name has always held me back.

Still, I am sympathetic to the idea that an ordinary name may give a misleading impression, to some casual observers, of the graphics horsepower behind it.

In the end, rather than try to attract new users with a more trendy name, I come down on the side of "Let the results (of which there are legion--thank you, all) do the marketing."

(Is this where I say I don't like the MIC in G'MIC? Lightbulb moment: maybe it was never about me.)

Cheer up.
