It was finished when I got up this morning.

Starting time 9/21/2010 @ 16:40pm, Finish time: 9/23/2010 @ 12:10am. I can't find a size but it was 11+gb when I went to bed at 23:30pm last night. Apparently it finished in less than 1 hour from that time so I'd say the finished mirror is somewhere between 11 & 12gb.

I'm reminded of an article I read that said something like 'the projected demand for data storage in the entire world would be double the amount available in 2015(?)'. It also said something like '70% of all data stored would be redundant'.

I wonder if those numbers are/will be correct.

i may suggest to check if the Internet Archives may index gimpchat ?
I am not sure if Internet Archives/Wayback Machines may cache forum but if will be possible will be great

Internet Archives allow to browse side even if are dead or offline, and with a cool Firefox extension (Resurect this page ) could be done with a right click (dead link? ...right click and chose "Resurect this page " )

Yes. I'm familiar with the web archives site and have used it quite a few times for sites that no longer are online.

For sure, I was just in the nick of time to get it before GT went off line again. Now I have to figure out how to browse my offline GT stuff.

Thanks. Actually it's index.html, but I have two of them. The one in the folder I made for the download that I'd already tried didn't work, just gave me html links to webfiles.

Opened the folder named gimptalk with all the files in it and found another in there and that worked! . Now I can browse the website offline. Thanks, Rod!!!

Would this be helpful for the gimptalk owners if they need to put a back up back online, or is it just helpful for whoever downloads it? It is kind of handy to have all the tutorials and info backed up so you can always access it.

PC, I hope you're right about the privacy thing. My own little forum has a private section for members that post things there that they wouldn't on an open section. Would hate to think that everything there wasn't private after all.

(except that i posted or were posted to me) the only (almost) sensitive data i can get as admin is the mail used to register
That program is not something sneaking and sniffing inside servers, it just automatize saving what accessible normally on the web

Then i don't know if some good hacker could do more but in case i really doubt would be interested to spy PM of GT users

I installed the Firefox extension and was able to browse http://www.wingimp.org and found this tutorial that I wrote from a printed copy I had. Still no author of the tutorial is available.

I can't read private messages on my forum and I'm founding admin. Maybe in other forum software it's possible, or if you change your software, but the default phpbb forums don't have that features as far as I can tell.

Okay, GimpTalk is down, again! I think it's time we made it official and started migrating everything over here.

It's a shame it's come to this, but GT is going down more frequently and seems to be on the verge of dieing.

We need to get permission to repost everything we can or convince the original posters to do it themselves.
I'm talking about this like guides and tutorials of course, not everything.

Does anyone agree with me? Is it time to give up on GimpTalk and make our new home here?

Anything you've written in GT, you can make a copy of it and write it here in Gimp Chat.

I do not think that extends to material that other people have written. Each person could do only his/her stuff.

Hopefully Gimp Talk will get straightened out. If not, archives will be available I would expect.

O actually convince me (break my arm? Nahh, but she did use unconventional methods to contact me (won't say what). lol) to join GIMPChat. It's definitely a shame that GIMPTalk keeps on tanking, but I'm not going to give up on GIMPTalk yet, but I have already stopped submitting artwork there (will that be always? We shall see). It still will be a lot of work to transfer tuts over here; many cool ones have already been done (hats off to those guys). Still, I do most of my online stuff in the cloud if you will (never keep things local anymore). Oh well.

All of my tutorials i post 3 fold.. here at Gimp Chat, Gimp Talk, and The Gimper , and even a few movies on my own server.So I am not too worried about mine.
