Cooler Master is more known for there computer power supplies then they are keyboards. It seems that Cooler Master builds their keyboards with as mush integrity as they do their power supplies.
I will have to take a look at this game Dota 2.

I've watch the video from your link and this game looks like it requires lots of specialized knowledge to be even moderately successful at.
I think I'll have to pass on this game. It look way more involved then I'm willing to commit to.

Very nice, Wallace. It looks very much like a buckling spring keyboard, which is the type I prefer. They have very distinct action and click. When you press the key down, you know it.

All of the older IBM PC keyboards and most IBM terminal displays, used this design. They last forever. I still have several that were manufactured in the 80s sitting in my closet. They finally started having problems but they lasted for 20+ years. I purchased a new bucking spring keyboard a few years ago and it's still working great.

That sounds like a pretty good keyboard at 20+ years old. I didn't keep any kind of stuff like that from back then. This is the firs time I've heard of bucking spring keyboards. I'm sure I must have used them in the past, but didn't know what they were called.
Were those keyboard from the 80's connected using PS/2, or some other kind of connector?

When you said "Mechanical keyboard", it made me think of buckling spring.

The ones from the early 80's used AT style connectors and in the late 80's, IBM released the PS/2 (Personal System 2), which used PS/2 connectors. The new ones from Unicomp have the option of USB connectors for modern PC's.

I wasn't much into computer stuff back in the 80's. PS/2 has been around a long time. My new machine doesn't support PS/2.

Oh, hey, I had a PS/2 for a while. I got it used from Sears as my co-worker's husband worked there, and I would buy what he traded in when he upgraded. I really loved the PS/2, and my granddaughter pretty much learned how to use a computer on it. She was 4 or 5 at the time.

BTW. the typing system you use is called the eagle system, it replaced hunt and peck (doubling the output of the typing pool)

I think you're referring to the PS2 (Play Station 2 Game Console ) and not a PS/2 (Personal System 2 Connector).

I ran into the same issue at RadioShack when I was looking for a PS/2 to USB converter. They didn't have a clue what I was talking about.

You could always pop one of these in. Sounds like you don't need PS/2 anyway. Unlike other USB connected keyboards, your keyboard handles the N-Key Rollover limitations with USB.

I also think you made a good choice with the Cherry MX brown switches. You get the tactile click feel without the noise. I was reading that MX Blue switches give you the click sound too, if you want it.

Thanks SysTemX, but I no longer need a converter. I looked up JAYCAR , they do have the connector and believe it or not they'll ship to AZ too.


I was thinking of installing one of those PCI adapter cards, but I really have no need for it now. I like the brown switches. I could have also gone with the red.
