About two years ago I spilt a cup of coffee over the keyboard , after the initial shock and panic was over and the keyboard dried out I found the only lasting damage was an intermittent non functioning spacebar key, annoying but I could live with it. As time went by it got worse , so I removed the plastic key cover and for a while it seemed better, but gradually worsened, I then removed the rubber covering exposing the circuit board, it does work but I have to hit an exact spot, not good.

A few days ago I downloaded SharpKeys from How-To Geek which lets the user redefine a keys character, now for a space I press the backslash, which is great , but its taking some getting used to ignoring the spacebar, andsometimesiforget.

Hi Steve, I usually spill beer, coffee or tea on the keyboard. Just little bits but after a couple of months some of the keys stick. So I take my keyboard apart and put the keypad top part through the dish washer. Pots and Pan cycle. This method washes out the sticky sugary deposits. Let it dry thoroughly and put it back together. End of sticky keyboard. The method is described in "How to Geek" and a few other places. It works, it does not cure my fingers hitting wrong keys.

I just took my keyboard apart and put it through the dishwasher at pots and pans cycle. I dried it well with my hair blower and I am just waiting to make sure it is completely dry. I will let ya all know if it still works for me

Edit Ok, I just plugged it in and it is just like a brand new keyboard. It is so clean, it hurts me eyes. Thank you wooble for the into. I would never havef thought of putting my keyboard in the dishwasher.

Glad, it worked for you, Molly. I don't have a hair dryer, and use compressed air. Next time I'll just "borrow" my wife's hairdryer.

That would never have crossed my mind, it sounds crazy but obviously works and much better than vandalising the computer, guess I’ll have to get myself a dishwasher

there is lots of hot air in a hair dryer wooble. works great.
