Its been very wet and windy for the last 2 and a half days in Sydney and surrounding regions - where I am we have had about 500mm (20inches) of continuing torrential rain so far (thats more than half our average annual score), and we are the 'lucky ones'. Further north cars and homes have been washed down rivers and a couple of homes are acrtually floating around Lake Macquarie at present.

I had my garden completely reconfigured a few years back but had not reckoned on the impressive waterfall coming down the garden steps this morning. The ground is now so waterlogged the rain does not penetrate any more it just runs off wherever it can. Maybe we should be giving nature a bit more respect.

Sallyanne - no photo, I was too busy sweeping all the water away from the house towards the drains, and would you believe it has started pouring down again, that short burst of sun disappeared very quickly.

Yes Graechan - I agree, the best damn place on earth but I was wrong when I first posted that the rain was ceasing - its absolutely bucketing down right now still/again.

Just watched the news and feel really sorry for those poor people in both the Hunter Valley floods to the north and closer to home the Georges River area. So much water flowing through homes, streets and rural properties.

Don't complain guys. You live in a wonderful place on the earth. But OMG is right, all of us have to take care of nature wherever we live. :)
I hope that this streak rain pass soon and don't stifle! :)

Still drizzling but the rain depression seems to have moved on. No pictures of my own garden steps waterfall but here is one of my localt ferry wharf ...

Image

... and one of the main road north at Maitland ...

Saddest part is that at least eight people have died in the floods.

I will finish with part of the second verse of an old poem by Dorothea Mackellar ...

I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.

Yes Graechan - best place on earth but a bit tough for some at times.

Thanks too for your kind words Issabella.

That's crazy, I hope everyone is OK. The worst part is if the Insurance doesn't cover all aspects.

Wow, I am looking at that bridge and there appears to be a backup of traffic but up ahead the road is completely under water. Are they waiting for the road to open. It is hard to tell in the pic.

Wow OMG. To think it is almost the same people every year who get it. Hope it doesn't get as bad in your area as other places in NSW. Can't remember when it rained non-stop here. But then I'm glad it doesn't, I could not put up with it.

Well its 10 days since I started this thread and our east coast is still being bombarded by rain storms, with more serious flooding occurring again further north.

Once again I have a (smaller this time) waterfall down the garden steps and water flowing through the garage, but you know it is really wet when even the lorikeets seek shelter - this photo is taken through our kitchen window looking out across our covered outdoor entertaining area up into the garden ...

@2-ton: thats a blade of one of our stainless steel outdoor fans that help keep the air flow moving and cooler in the hot months. The patio faces north and gets a lot of direct sun!

Oh by the way it is STILL raining hard!

If we could send it we would. Copped that rain a bit before OMG got it. It tore a branch off an acacia that nearly took out our native bee hive. Sorry couldn’t get a picture as my sister had cleared the mess up before I thought of taking a pic.
