Some mind-blowing-ish examples of what happens when an ANN tries too hard
http://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/this-mystery-photo-haunting-reddit-appears-to-be-image-recognition-gone-very-weird

Some of the pics remind me of wild GIMP experiments!

Definitely eclectic and wonderfully strange. Looks like something that I might have concocted. Does that mean I'm a bot? lolol

what must be going through a bot's mind is probably even more warped. :hehe

matera: that article was really fascinating, thank you for sharing.

lyle: :rofl you're a bit of a batty bot, aren't you?

wonder if anyone has started to exploit the possibilities of the technique yet - to make image generators. that would be so much fun!

How cool! They're kind of like fractals based on opinion rather than hard mathematics. They're especially fractal-like in the last collection of pictures at the end of the article.

That one picture captioned "How an early neural layer thinks about these addaxes" looks like a pretty desirable faux-paint effect to have as a filter!

Could be the source of inspiration. If they created an image generator like this, I would definitely want one.

You're in luck.
I read an article here: http://computer.howstuffworks.com/google-deep-dream.htm
and in the article there was a link to: http://deepdreamgenerator.com/
Which i just tried to get the below, still think it's disturbing though.

again it just gets creepier and creepier

trandoductin: wow, great find!!! and creepy images indeed, but very interesting too.

i found that these images go extremely well together with certain g'mic filters - for example graphic novel - and i do like odinbc and mask off certain parts. the artwork you get out of this is weird, magical, decorative, disturbing and veeeery inspiring!

don't think gainsbourough would have recognised his blue boy

That is awesome AnMal!!!

I thought I would try with a couple of 3D fractals.

i've just made a separate thread for images like these.

erisian: i knew your fractals would come out awesome in deep dream!! i want more of this, more more more!

trandoductin: i think that must be because of how we use image search engines to find cute animals all the time. if people searched more for sensible things like paisley patterns the deep dream generator would be better at creating paisleys. at least that's what i hope. :hehe
