Robots and possible future of jobs.

After reading this article,

It reminded me of a time when I played Shenmue (A Japanese Video Game), where inside the game, I got a job as a forklift driver moving crates from one location to another. It reminded me of that because back then while i was playing the game I often wondered if they ever used my signals to control a real forklift in real life and move real crates at a real possible jobsite.

Then after reading this article, I thought if they're going through the trouble of making robo-bulldozers, instead it'd be really cool if they made a game/program where the job site is real and you could be trained then use the computer to control remotely that way they can outsource their bulldozing jobs around the world.... If such thing existed I would definitely try to apply for that job, the plus side is you don't have to travel from/to work either.

Just random thoughts, what do you think?

It sounds like it could be theoretically possible.

I'm disabled and can't physically do the work I use to do and don't have much else to fall back on.
I was a carpenter for 20+ years, building furniture in NYC.
Before that I was in the Army as a Tank Crewmen.
These are both good skills, but I can no longer do them due to my disability.
What I did while in the Army, is very difficult at best to translate into a civilian occupation.
I also can not physically operate the machinery and or tool needed to resume being a carpenter.
Nor can I maintain being on my feet as I use to from 9-5 and then some.

Me too.
I've made a few logos that brought in a little money,
but nothing that I would call substantial or on going.
I also don't want to do this for a living.
As you mentioned, it's a past time/hobby.
Not my occupation.

I use to work for a helpdesk center; they actually figured out how to automate that position sufficiently enough to let all but one division remain open (Texas). Unfortunatly, all the other divisions got the axe. Yes; automation may save money for a company but the problem is if all business do so, what are you going to do with those without a job? Yes; a few may be able to go into another field/career, but jobs are a scarce resource other then retail/min wage opportunities. I actually got the part time seasonal position at Kohls (baring passing drug and criminal background checks which I will). Orientation starts the 26 Oct. At least I'll be making some money slowing down the decay. Hope to get a job with International Paper (applied for an entry level position Monday and I'm sure so did 1000 other and much younger folk). I'm still in the running for the part time TSA job too but it's now been over 3 weeks since I resubmitted some security paperwork. Very frustrating.
