WARNING!!!

I had to reinstall win 8.1 after running the most recent win 10 update.
The update installer ran for more then 3 hours without change.
I tried everything I could think of to restore my PC, without success.

Anyone else having any issues with the recent win 10 updates?

Lucky you.
This recent one sent me for a big loop.
Nearly killed my PC.

The reboot took a bit longer than normal updates, but it finally completed with no issue, Wallace. :)

Every time windows wants to update on my computer lately my antivirus throws up errors re the downloading file. I have been ignoring them up to now and letting it update.

@Deblk:
Thanks Deblk
I almost have everything back together. Just trying to get my Gimp in order.

@Conbagui: I don't use an SD card in my computer,
but I do have about 4 or 5 flash drives that stay plugged in all the time.
The update that went out yesterday 3/1/2016,
showed as 100% complete for me and it kept on cycling through, nonstop.
I got frustrated and hit the shutdown button after about 3 or 4 hours.
When I rebooted, it said "Please Wait". So I waited and I waited and I waited and I waited.
I finally decided to reinstall windows 8.1 and then reinstall windows 10 after that.

This looks to be a November update. My machine hasn't had any problems either Wallace. Updates run fine so far. My last update was last week though.

I got pushed a new update yesterday evening Rod and it required a reboot. Since I check for updates daily (manually) but didn't last night, this is a new update. Maybe others have been experiencing issues too so they might have decided not to push it to your PC; who knows. :)

I had to reinstall win10 to get my machine to boot correctly.
Of course by doing this,
I lost most of the User Data that was on my Windows C:drive.
I since have reinstall everything that I lost.
With the exception of my Gimp User file,
which were left completely barren.
Making the mistake of not backing up these User File also contributed to my losses.

Thanks to Molly,
I was able to get many of the scripts and some other the stuff that I lost.
It's my Gimp Plugins that I'm now dealing with trying to repopulating.

Wallace: Can you submit a list of the plug ins you are missing and if we have them we can post them for you?

Thanks Pat625,
that's a nice idea, but it's okay.
I'm going to slowly get the ones I want over time.

Hi Wallace, I have windows 7 so I'm not sure about win 10. But sometimes when I have problems with windows update I'll run the windows update troubleshooter. Sometimes it helps. I assume you tried this?

I did think of this, but I wasn't able to boot my machine into windows.
So running the troubleshooter wasn't going to happen.
After reinstalling the OS.
My pc was updated with all current and relevant updates.

bummer :-(
i use portable mainly to keep my windows clean and fast
all user files get stored in the data folder of the program on an ex.disk
if windows going bey bey, its image back and i'm up in 15min

I'm still running win7 and its heavily modified
all the MS "you cant delete/disable, else the world comes to an end" crap is out of the system
next new system gets Linux mind, no win10 for me
after 25 years of windows its changed from an OS to a My first spyware

@Wallace
With the exception of my Gimp User file,
which were left completely barren.

1 big YES for gimp
MS got scared hihihi

Bummer is an understatement, for me anyway.

Portable Gimp is a good way to go for keeping "things" to a minimum.

I've now resorting to manually creating restore points before any major win10 updated.
Another thing I'm doing,
is creating a ISO image of my entire system drive,
rather than fiddle around with partitions purely for my personal data,
or cloud storage, which might be slow to restore vital files.
It's a useful means of reducing reliance on physical media.
I'm also making backups of my User Files as I make any changes to them.

I'm back up and running to where I was before my win10 update "debacle".
;)
