I know; two off-topics in a very short period, but just ran across this cool engine and had to share. Can double fuel efficiency giving a huge Ford truck up to 37mpg and there are no spark plugs; it's not a diesel either.

My daughter however does and her car is a deisel run. But would you know it deisel has gone up here in price. Used to be the cheaper out of Petrol (gas) and deisel as was LPG – Liquefied Petroleum Gas. Now that is about the same as everything else. I remember when it first came out in Australia it was quite cheap.

Yeah; diesel use to be the cheapest fuel out there, but all the regulations (sulfer removal primarily) astronomically added to the cust of diesel. Oh well.

The interesting thing about this story is that the original design dates back to WW2 1940's era. I'm a gearhead and I find this interesting. I'm also very surprised it can achieve 37 mpg from a 2-Stroke engine.

One of the biggest problems with a 2-stroke engine is piston ring wear, because they have to pass by open intake and exhaust ports. These types of engines tend to wear out rather quickly.

Interesting engine Lyle. The new technology is here like the Mercedes AMG E53 inline 6 with hybrid electric boost.
These run on a 48 volt electric system.
