Wanted to see if there are any android cell phone users out there? I'm thinking of doing a tutorial on creating something special for your phone using GIMP/other tools. If there's enough interest, I'll start working on it.

Yes, go ahead and share, Fencepost. I'm curious, too.

Will work on it this weekend. It's not earth shattering, but it's neat to be able to put graphics we create to another use. :)

Ok, my "will work on it this weekend" was a couple of weekends ago and in the interim I had several "work on things at work" moments (I hate it when business gets in the way of pleasure!) At any rate, things have cooled off here at work and I should be able to start work on this soon.

iPhone4...and I love apps, but I think you have to join (fee required) their program to make apple apps.

Droid-X here. Running the new Gingerbread release, but considering going back to Froyo. A new Gingerbread is due out in a few weeks. I too would be interested to see what you have in mind!

Don't like Apple or Google so I guess I'll never iOS or Droid. My opinion based on what I have come to know about both these companies. Rarely even do Google search (prefer Yahoo). Others, of course, may think differently, but to eaches own. :)

I'm not sure about the joining but you can buy a app developer kit I know.

I dont know why you wouldnt those things, but in 12 years I have never had a virus and never had to have my computer fixed because some bug crashed it etc etc...and it suits me...My son is a software engineer with a degree and had to learn both...wouldnt let me have anything else when I got a computer and thats where it all began for me...I do run xp pro(desktop) and linux(laptop) on my VMware for some things, alongside the Mac OS (on both machines Mac OS is the main OS)..and I use a pc at work...I think there is a place for all of the different systems available...and in fact I have just advised someone who hasnt got much cash to get an ASUS eeepc...I'm not biased ...people should use what is best for them and do what is best for them and I respect that and what other peoples choices are regarding everything, including their choice of computers...

My brother LOVES his MAC. and he is a professional audio engineer, so he doesn't use it for games or silly stuff (not that there's anything wrong with that). I mean he is a power user and is very very happy with his MACs

in fact this is his email from yesterday:
Quote:
I powered up my new iMac today. This is the first official e-mail from the new iMac. I was able to move all my data from my old power book to the new iMac with no problems. Firewired them together and in an hour the new iMac was a mirror image of the power book, with the software upgrades. If I had to do this on a windows machine I'd still be at it, pulling my hair out. I know I sound like a mac nut, but once you go mac you never go back. It's like my Toyota, the perfect machine.
I love using Ubuntu, but someday I think it would be great to have a MAC

Has nothing to do with viruses Akky; will PM you my opinion. Also, your son is sort of right in having you get a MAC if viruses the main concern since there are more attacks on Windows systems then MAC (when you control 90% of the market, you get 90% of the viruses). That said, if you know the secret (like me) you'll never get a virus or the attack will be so weak that it is like slapping a fly with a swatter. You already know the secret (virtual machines) and the concept specifically is sandboxing. I double sandbox and so far no one's gone to the trouble of trying to break that (not that they can't, but most hackers look for the biggest bang for the buck and don't want to deal with specific setups). :)

My son was right back then and still is right about them...cecilia your brother is quite correct there..(I envy him)...my brother who is supposed to be well versed in all things...(knows everything)...took about a week to get his new pc set up the way he had the other one...it takes no time at all to do what your brother did.
I dont think kids are disadvantaged either by what ever system the parents decide is best for them...my 17 yo grandson who has lived with me all his life is a mac pro virtually but he has bought himself a HP laptop as he is a gamer...they all have different pros and cons and I dont think any of them are really any better than another...they all have good and bad points...I personally prefer to use mac on most occasions but for somethings I pump up the VMware and get the old XP going..and I dont use XP to surf the net if I can help it unless I am looking for something specifically PC while I am on XP. They all have the same basic principal...just as we have 2 cars, both different in design age make power etc...they both have the same purpose and that is to get us from point A to point B at any given time. There is aplace in this world for everything, thats what helps to make us a very diverse society....so now I wont comment any further on this as I feel its gone out of the context of the thread in any case...end of story!
