Be careful with Wubi, its very unstable. And the first time Grub updates you'll be looking for how to boot into Ubuntu via Live CD. Been there, done that. You're better off dual booting or using VM (or Virtualbox).

Mahvin, well hopefully I don't run into an issues, I would like to Dual Boot, but my windows doesn't like doing anything, I tried to Defrag and it froze....

In the past i used Wubi often and i never got problem

Instead i got serious problem accepting to update grub, or to accept upgrade to new ubuntu version (i believe because that usually include new grub version )

install wine is simple as type "wine" in synaptic search field, but you may wish after get q4wine (a bit more complex to set it up but more flexible to use)

If you never defrag before could take ages, and defrag require at least 15% free space
Anyway this work a bit better then built in defrag http://www.piriform.com/defraggler

It is quicker and process is more complete (i.e include the registry )

However if you never defrag or you didn't from long i would suiggest to start it before going to sleep, obviously leaving the pc running.

A bit OT the same company offers a good cleaning tool http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner, you can't believe how much trash may cumulate in relativly short time

Got WINE up and running now, the thing I was worried about was that the Plugins for Apophysis are dll files (ugh, unsafe I know), but I got it working.
Got GIMP installed, and I just hope I don't run into any issues, I'll run Defrag on my PC tonight, I got all day tomorrow to argue with Linux

PC: That was clearly what my comment was referring to, the GRUB update. Wubi can't seem to handle them.

Willy, if you get a GRUB update, just be aware that by accepting it, you'll run the risk of getting blocked from logging in normally, and you'll need your LIVE CD to get back in.

Yes mahvin you are right about grub but if a new grub is in Wubi, it would be also in any alternative install method
anyway you are not the only one that reported issues with wubi maybe i was just luckly

i will not worry about Apophysys dll,also because dll is a windows thingy and can't do much damage on a linux machine,
well i did read of people worried about their linux pc got infected by using wine, but i never read of somebody having real problems

PC the only thing I was worried about was them not being liked by WINE

Mahvin, I am really just testing out Ubuntu like this, over night I am gonna defrag, and then Dual Boot tomorrow, I have to say I like WUBI, much better than Virtual Box, it was very slow and made everything lag, even after closing it, I was effected it seemed.

I tried ubuntu, I like mint better, I haven't had any trouble with Wine so I'm sure you can get it to work. I don't know why everybody act's like it's some crime to use Wine. If it allows me to run the apps i want and Linux doesn't offer them then I'll do what it takes. I've seen the term grub mentioned a lot but i don't know much abut it yet. I will pretty soon.

anyone used Compiz? I was using Winsplit Revolution on Windows, and I miss it's effects, any help? It comes installed with natty narwhal.

Forgot to add that my first introduction to Ubuntu was Fawn. The only distribution I had issues with was Meerkat, but Narwhal is fantastic (guess it needed the hiccup in order to make it even better; lol).

I have had no problems yet, only thing was when I hit ctrl+alt+f4
and didn't know my login name and had to restart :/

yeah, I don't use a ton of the effects, mostly Expo, wobbly windows (makes me laugh) and being able to switch workspaces easily...stuff like that.
