I have not heard anything yet but i am thinking the power button or the power supply unit fried.Or it could have something to do with the 3 lbs of dog hair in it. :clap
Anyways i told him to fix that, my disc changer and also asked him to add 1 gig of ram :lol

So hopefully i will have my desktop, and 1400x900 monitor back soon.
With 1gig ram instead of 512mb.
Cross your fingers!

Yup i know, but surprisingly it handles the load quite well with just that amount so at 1gig i should be happy.
When he calls i may just have him up that to 2 gigs and the hard drive space to 200gigs or more depending on the final price :)

my pc only has 512 RAM...in 2004 it was considered a lot! No wonder my macbook at 4 gigs seems so fast!

My first Linux computer in 2007 had only 384MB of RAM and it performed much faster than my wife's 1GB laptop. Good memory management goes a long way :) I think GIMP will just eat whatever you give it, though. I have one large drawing open and 6.6 / 12 GB used. Just about all of that is GIMP and xorg.

Surprisingly, Conky, a fairly basic text-based system monitor, is using 4x more RAM than Firefox. I wonder if there's a leak somewhere...

If you have cats or dogs, your best bet is to elevate your desktop at your desk level (as I do). Can hair and Dust can be PC killers. I still open the side and try to vacuum my PC at least once a year (a pain for a lazy guy like me, but I've seen one to many PCs that died due to Processor fan or video fan stoppage. lol).

One gig of RAM works pretty well for me in Liunx. But the more the merrier, I always say.

Aspen called me back and said it was indeed the power supply unit.
He went ahead and cleaned it real good.
replaced the PSU
Increased the RAM to 1 gig
Increased the hard drive space to 160 gigs
All for a grand total of 125 dollars.
The labor and parts for the PSU alone were 90 dollars so....
I think that was a pretty good deal for everything. :)

So i pick it up tomorrow! .... I am happy.

Lost my job a year ago (use to work for a mom and pop computer local PC repair outlet; now, if I'm lucky, get an occasional contract job), but, I can tell you, that you indeed got a great deal Rod. If your PC is to your liking, then even better. :)

Yes, that is a fair deal. You could spend that much (or more) for a power supply alone (although I wouldn't).
