Came across this site, and the image was stunning and then I got a chuckle when I right clicked to save the image:

The link (is there an easy & reputable "favored" link shortening method here?):

The image for those who dare not click on links:

I kept the original filename the photographer gave it, lol...

Link shortening happens automatically with long URLs.

That is an impressive image. I wonder if it's been digitally enhanced? :cool

Wow! Great shot. I have tried so many times to get a picture of lightning. I don't think a $100 pocket camera is going to do the trick.

I don't go into boing boing often any more. I subscribe to its newsfeed in Sage. I prefer Slashdot and Wired news now. That lightning picture is a nice find though.

It's not lightning caused by a thunderstorm, but by a volcanic plume (good ol' Whatsitsname in Iceland, I would guess).

You can get lightning pictures with a $100 camera, especially if it's a Canon and you have added the CHDK stuff to it: it self-detects lightnings and triggers on that. Otherwise it only requires a camera that you can set in manual mode, and some luck.

I don't go there much at all, but I prescribe to a Google Reader group known as "Cool Stuff" and lots of interesting stuff passes through each day.

That does look cool. I wonder how many cameras get hosed by those taking pictures in sooty places like Iceland's erupting volcanoes? Still, this capture is a money shot and the guy can always buy another camera. :)

Is that Harry Potter up there on the top right with his broom stick? :)
A couple faces on the top left can be made out too.

Willy, what I meant was, I looked.

"Monkeys only look." Ever heard that expression?

You might actually see something (like faces in the volcanic clouds). I see a rabbit.

Yeah it's like laying on the grass and looking up in the sky in the afternoon on a partly cloudy day. :)
What do you see in this one?

Pretty much my Roman soldier in profile but the sideburns is more like his helmet piece. Neat stuff!

I've got a cheap Canon Power Shot SX 120 IS, but I have no clue what CHDK stuff is or how to add it. Takes great photos tho.
