I've been hearing this rumour about Facebook buying Opera for a few days now. I don't use Facebook but if you do here is an interesting post.
"Facebook removes Google Chrome from supported browsers".

It doesn't make sense because Firefox and IE are also rivals. Facebook or Opera must have something specifically against Google.

About sums it up.

I saw the posting as well, Facebook see it as an easy way to obtain a mature & developed browser without spending years developing one from scratch. The removing of Chrome is just stupidity and sure to backfire.

Opera despite being excellent and innovative, has a very small share of the market - 5 % -ish. One way for the Norwegian developers to cash in and retire.

Personally, I would not touch Facebook with a bargepole but then I am a dinosaur and I have used Opera (Windows and Linux) since ver 3.something - more than 12 years.

And well it's all HTML anyway... unless Facebook want to try the same manoeuver Microsoft tried xith Java. Slight divergences from the standard that leads to incompatibilities. And suddenly all the current Facebook users end up using the Official Facebook Browser.

rich2005, I wouldn't either. It is like a gossip and infringement book to me.

Never Facebooked; never will. Tried Opera many (and I mean many) years ago and didn't like it. Now I really don't like it. 'Nough said. :)

As a side note; if you ever get an invite to be my frien on FB, be aware that it is a virus since again, I will never be a member. If you do get a virus, then don't blame me. :)

you are so funny Lyle, I love people that speak their mind and not be swayed by others. I have a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend that belongs to Facebook and they asked me to add them as a friend. (Not true, but that is how it works.)

Will they really now... most people who use facebook seem to me to be those same people who never even realized there are other browsers besides IE
