I hadn't planned to get any more but we went in to pay a bill and saw these two. They were feeder rats. Feeder rats have had a cruel life, they're only purpose is to be snake food. They're never shown ant attention or interaction, they're just seen as money. Consequentially they're usually jumpy, nippy, and hyper. It just infuriates me to see them sold for snake food. The last few months have been terrible and by impulse I just decided that THESE TWO weren't going to be fed to snakes, if I can't prevent anything else I can prevent that. So I got them and now they will spend the rest of their lives with my girls living comfortably and loved.
Unfortunately they put males and females in the came cage and I'm pretty sure she's pregnant and well along. The father was probably her sibling. I hope not. PS: Their tales aren't supposed to be dark, they get baths tomorrow.

Awww, rescue rats. They are going to be stunning after their baths!

It disgusts me when living creatures are seen only as finance. At the very least they should be properly cared for while they are alive. Nice to know these two have a good home now anyway.

They're doing fine with the other girls. Sometimes, usually in fact, girls get snippy to new ones at first. I had to put one in jail last night and and after a long talk I think she's penitent so her back in with the others. The girls go into heat once a week so at any given time one is grumpy.

Amendment: I had to put her back in jail, she wasn't so repentant after all. Solitary confinement, which rats hate and can be fatal, bread and water rations. She was fighting with one of the new girls but she had some bloody spots on her so the new girls can scrap with the best of them.

Drama, so typical of females!
