$50 per month seems a lot to pay. Wonder if Adobe is shooting itself in the foot with this move.

I expect anyone who owns PS will hold onto it. Wonder how long product support will be in effect for PS owners.

$600 per year seems pretty steep.

I don't mean to rain on the parade but this isn't going to push ton's of Adobe users to open source. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see more people go for Gimp, but this announcement actually reduces the overall cost of Adobe's original subscription model for many users. If your already in their ecosystem it's a good deal (Suite, $600yr or $2500 every 3-4yrs or PS $120yr or $600 every 3-4yrs). Your already seeing other commercial software companies using this model. Their only big news today was branding and distribution.

Well we have Gimp, if they do want to join us I hope they find Gimp Chat as well!

I don't think Adobe will lose many customers over this move, however, they may end up (eventually) losing quite a few users.

Indeed.... but in the long run users often become customers.

And there are a bunch of third-party commercial plugins for Adobe. How do these fit into the new picture?

I like how in the first article they are summing up PS like this: "Adobe's new CC software includes a version of Photoshop that can correct some camera shake in photos..."

In my opinion they (Adobe), are making a huge mistake.

Speaking of 3rd party plugins.
The creator of FilterMeister (Alex Hunter), has been working on a version to port 64 bit plugins along with 32 bit.
For those who do not know FilterMeister is the code writing software for Adobe 8BF's

So i just wonder where this puts 8bf plugins for cloud users.I suppose as long as there is still Adobe Photoshop software out there the plug-ins will be useful.

I have heard rumors that it is almost ready for testing.

I think it would be a good time to speed up the release of GIMP 2.10. But I think it takes a long time for the migration of all filters to GEGL.

I believe a lot of people used PhotoShop because of its "snob appeal," and it's "one-up-manship" attitude. Many are finding that there are other alternatives to good imagery. Gimp just keeps on getting better and better.

Those buying from artists are going to stop looking for the PhotoShop credentials in what they buy; quality workmanship will be the main factor, not the brand name on the image.

We should also remember or take into account that @$%$# intentionally aims for the design companies that buy many licenses at one time for all their machines.So if these companies go cloud what effect does that have on them? Are they stuck with either shelling out so much per year to use annually updated (^#$% products no matter which of their PC's runs it, or are they going to keep their licenses for Creative Suite they have now?
Answer-
Most of those companies are going to have to switch to cloud servers because of competition.I am sure *&%^$ will come out with a user or client side to the cloud where designers can upload their work straight to the client.It will be something to arouse the clients attention for sure and that will force designer companies to switch to it.
That is what i see happening in the future.That and a huge amount of "Learn The New Cloud PS" Disc sales.
You bet there will be some schooling involved.
And who is to say they don't start charging separate cloud prices for each piece of product?
