Can anyone send me to a place where I can get a free AntiVirus. I am currently running Avast but now it keeps wanting me to upgrade/subscribe.

If your running Windows, Microsoft Security Essentials is a very good unobtrusive choice. It's one of the better 'free' (no limitations) options.

Few examples, short version. ;)

You can choose to turn AV off and choose to scan what ever files or folders you want with a right mouse click.
You can easy go to FW and choose "define a new blocked application" and choose from "running processes" wich means if you download a new program you don't trust, but like to try.
Turn off your internet temporarely, run the program, and when that program is active, choose it in that list, running processes, apply.
Then turn on the internet.
You can also make it more or less sensitive so you do or don't get questions all the time when something wants the internet, and choose to remember your action, or not.
The defense+ can for example be set to training mode, so the first time you start Gimp, it will add all the new stuff to a list instead of asking for decisions all the time and you can later on remove them or what ever you choose in peace.

Thats my little short tut on Comodo and it might be similar maby to other alternatives, but there you have it. ;)

Anything is better then nothing at all, put it that way. :)

The basic Avast is still free... but you may have to switch to a more recent version. Another options is to use a more inherently safe operating system (hint, hint).

SallyAnne, look whether you have a "Quarantine" folder in your AV, normally each AV does not drop down pieces of sw without the user accepting that, by default it puts "dangerous" pieces under a folder called Quarantine..
Hope you will find everything in there....

I use Avast and have not had any problems. A lot of reviews rate it #1. IIRC when you download, you have the choice of the free version and a trial of the paid version. If you use the trial, you will get solicitations to upgrade.

You do get the notices to upgrade once a year, but you just have to say yes and it upgrades. I have been using it on 3 computers for years now and it is great.

It will not let me upgrade unless I buy a code. But since my system restore I have it on my computer again and I guess it will still look after things from its old virus database.
