Add "Edit with Gimp" [SOLVED by GC Member alc59] Thanks!

I would like to add the, "Edit with Gimp" option to my right click menu of my new Windows 7 machine, but can't seem to figure out how to do this.
I may have to add a new registry entry for this show in the right click menu, but I'm not sure what or where to add it. Or If I even need to add a new registry entry at all.
I've look at the file associations listings, and can't find anything that's associated with "Editing" images.
As it stands... when I click on "Edit" in the "right click" menu, "Paint" will open the image for editing.

This screenshot below shows what the right click menu looks like on my old XP machine. I would like to make this show in my new Windows 7 machine.

Any ideas about what I might need to do for this to happen?
BTW... I may have asked this question before in regards to my old XP machine, and it's right click menu .

You may use:
- open with
- then look thru the list of possible editing software in your system
- you probably will not find Gimp but
- click on others (last in the list
- then you will find Gimp
- check open always with this one
try it
from there on when you click Open on an image Gimp will be launched
I don't know is this is what you want

No, this is not what I'm trying to accomplish. I can however open images with Gimp using "Open With".
What I would like is to be able to select "Edit" from the right click menu and have Gimp open the image for editing. Right now when I select "Edit" for the right click menu, "Paint" opens the image for editing.
I want to change the "Edit" listing in the right click menu to open "Gimp" instead of "Paint" for image editing.

I know they changed File Associations to File Explorer, I don't remember if it was in Windoze 7 or 8.

Can you find the registry entry on your machine that points to the "Open with Gimp"?
They should be something like:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\jpegfile\shell\Edit with Gimp" for JPG's...
& "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\pngfile\shell\Edit with Gimp" for PNG's... and so on.
Can find these entries, copy them for me and get them to me.

Thanks Molly, all my file associations work as they should. I want to change the file association "Edit" to open Gimp and not "Paint". When I click "Edit", I want Gimp to open the image for editing not "Paint".

Other than the registry 5 Free Context menu tools. Be careful installing free stuff in Windows, you know those extra program offers during install.

I'd like to make the changes to my registry on my own, but will check your link as a last resort.
I do have some reg files, but need to compare them with others to make sure they are correct before installing them. I could backup everything before hand and just install what I have, but I want to double check these reg file for correctness. I got the reg file from here, http://www.sevenforums.com/music-pictur ... ing-2.html and they do seem like the correct files, but I want to be 100% sure that they are.

Thanks for all this work, but these are for your system and for FastStone. I thought that you might have the default reg entry's with "Edit with Gimp". They are in the correct location, just different.

I've been given "the" solution to this issue of "Edit with Gimp" showing up in the content menu.
alc59 as shown me a stand-alone program that will do all the dirty work for you, and it's free.

There have been other posts by alc59 that included this program. I did not see them until now.
But this whole issue of going into the registry and doing this and trying that is over.
