It first got heavy G'MIC mutilation to texture:

After that, Blender torture:

...end result, either cactus soup or alien eggs. :lol

You (anyone) can do whatever you want with these, since they are derivatives to begin with...

I could not reproduce this result again. Opening and experimenting with filters and blenders, ended up choosing this result.

Very beautiful the original photo, and very good works there...
I was experiencing how extract the foreground of that picture, I realized that it is very complicated:

The more I looked at this pic, the more I saw an Octopus with little fish swimming around so this is what I ended up with... not very good but my interpretation.

You people are creative as can be. :) It's awesome to see all the different imaginations at work.

Duplicate layer, copy G'MIC>Black&White>Pencil, mode to overlay, add upper layer, fill with 3D Green pattern, mode set to hue:

Image

Same as above, but filled with a flame pattern:

Image

I used the lasso tool, Feather edges selected, with a radius of 2, cut the flowering part out of the above photo, and set the mode to Darken only. Yes, it was a pain to cut out the "thorny" part, but hey, Gimpin' ain't easy  :

Image

Same as above, but G'MIC>Black&White>Pencil the second layer, and set the former mode to burn:

alc59 - Very interesting take on the image and the offset view just adds more interest.
