The Free and Open Source painting program, "MyPaint", recently released version 1.0.

Whereas GIMP is primarily directed toward manipulation of pre-existing images and creation of graphical renderings, MyPaint's focus is on supporting the processes of painting and drawing in a manner more familiar to traditional artists. In conjunction, the two programs can be exploited to great effect, as exhibited by much of the artwork produced by Griatch and shared on these forums (and who has written quite a few tutorials on his methods).

Congratulations to the MyPaint developers on reaching this milestone and thanks for sharing the product of your efforts with the Free Software community.

I just discovered this program recently, it looks good, I like the concept. I haven't had much time to play with it yet. I'm looking at tablets, when I decide to buy one I'll be giving it a whirl.

I plan to review this shortly. It's a nice piece of software. It has improved a lot since I first started using it at v0.5. :)

Here is the Windows installer link
(no 64 bit yet)

You know what is very interesting about this program is the fact that it uses SCons to build itself.
I downloaded the build environment libraries and dependencies to play with it a bit.
Pretty sure i may be able to use this same setup to compile Maze5-0.8.1 too. :bigthup

If by "mirror" you mean drawing on one side of a middle line and have your lines simultaneously reflected on the other side - no, that is not included. I know that some artists have been pushing for it though, so it's not impossible that it may appear in some future version.

Griatch i talk about painting modes , i don't mind much Wrap but i love Symmetry

the example show that the mode could be switched off and on allowing partial symmetry

@Photocomix

Yes, I know this is what you mean. And it still isn't in MyPaint as of this version. :)

PC are you talking about the same kind of symmetry Alchemy has?
Where you draw a line and the same gets drawn immediately opposite? :)

I don't use alkemy Rod
you didn't have PD pro ?

anyway the most simple implementation is have mirrored to the right what painted on the left and vice versa with the median line of the image as axes, would be nicer if the mirror axes may be chosen( i.e assigned by a mouse gesture )
