I wanted a heavier rock sound track from the Brandon Miller Band for these layered boolean fractals. I used Natron, Audacity and Kdenlive. I found those 3 programs were buggy up until recently but now they are excellent ... and free.

Great animation and graphics. You keep getting better at this. I'm surprised you're using Natron, it's very good, but a pain to use because it likes image sequences. I suppose that's fine for animation work as you're likely already working with image sequences.

The sound track is less desirable though. Did you alter the tempo, or is that the way they sound? Either way, it makes one of my favorite songs sound bad. A pity you can't use the real sound track, then it would've been more awesome.

Great work...

Thanks for the feedback guys.
This song is associated with Led Zeppelin but was originally recorded by Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie in 1929.

This version was recorded outside at the Slowride Roadhouse (in Kansas?) by the Brandon Miller Band. Brandon was born in 1990 and was inspired by his fathers record collection apparently.

I duplicated the track 3 times in Audacity and tweaked 2 of them at reduced volume, added some effects, then I mixed them down to one track. That would not change the timing. I was thinking about Climate Change but it was too much of a long bow.

Natron - reversing video in Kdenlive is not easy but with Natron I could reverse and smooth in one pass.

Workflow.
First keyframed two different 3,000 frame images in Mandelbulber that are rendered as JPG's with alphas. This can take up to 8 minutes per keyframe.
Next used a script by ofnuts to convert them to alpha PNGs. These are opened in Natron or Kdenlive but the numbering sequence has to be done a certain way or they won't open.
Using a base layer (stars) plus 2 transparent fractal video streams plus their reverses, I had plenty of combinations to play with.
I build them from the base layer and used 2 keyframed transitions in kdenlive. Keyframed transitions are the bees knees :)
