There's a wonderful post I found by doctormo titled...

GIMP 2.8 PHOTOSHOP TWEAKS

It's a great resource. However, if you DO NOT want to change the keyboard shortcuts DO NOT replace the "menurc" file!

If you already did then don't worry. Open Preferences>Interface and click on the button that says , "Reset Keyboard Shortcuts to Default Values".

Lastly if you want a new Gimp Splash Screen you can use mine :)

Changing the GIMP Splash Screen (for Windows and Linux documentation)

Mac users can go to... (You can right click on the GIMP.app and select "Show Package Contents") to get into the Resources folder:
~/Applications/GIMP.app/Contents/Resources/share/gimp/2.0/images

And there you go! Now GIMP looks and acts more like Photoshop Enjoy!

Mine already has the photoshop theme. I did that before I even started using Gimp. I also change a few keyboard shortcuts.

It is so many years since I used Photoshop regularly that I have become used to the appearance and way of working of Gimp!

Yes, but Gimp isn't the only image editor I use. Most image editors try to mimic PS, so why not make GIMP that way too? Especially the keyboard shortcuts. When I hit Ctrl+I, I expect it to select the inverse and not invert the colors as does the default.

GIMP is GIMP. I don't care that it doesn't look Photoshop. I don't know anything about Photoshop anyway. It is good for those who want it. I can understand why. I just don't need it to.

I agree and why would you need to do such a thing anyway?

It's a matter of preference. If you move into a fully furnish house or apartment, will you re-arrange the the furniture to your liking, or live with the awkward placement? I didn't like gimp in stock form and was always scratching my head, but after the modifications I made, I love it now. I'm thankful it's so easy to do...

Can you make Photoshop look and act more like Gimp?

I find that the Gimp has a lot of flexibility and I hope and expect that the next version will continue in that respect. I moved over when Photoshop relocated into the cloud and started charging monthly and/or per annum - and I can see benefits in moving away from physical media to online resources. We all have preferences and dislikes - I still miss the time-saving RiscOS option of right-clicking on an item in a menu tree to keep the menu open so that a further selection could be made without having to re-open the menu.

Over the years I have moved away from simply editing images and (sometimes) improving their appearance to engage in more creative activities with Gimp. It's hard to say if this would have happened in Photoshop - but as long as people have the options to mould Gimp to their own needs they will keep coming back for more.

The other big advantage is of course this community - the children of Gimp Chat and other forums that have evolved over the years.

That doesn't mean I will make the new apartment look like the previous one...

I'm sometimes sentenced to use Windows. I keep it looking very different from my usual Linux to make sure I don't expect things to work the same.

For the record I haven't used PhotoShop in years. I do use Gimp, DarkTable, LightZone, Krita and Paint.NET(under wine). I have Gimp set up just the way I like now. To each their own, but don't say you should keep the stock layout just because.

One of the very first things I do when trying out new s/w, is go into the settings and make changes that make sense to me. Some may not be as ambitious as me and that's fine too.....
