It takes little awhile to update - a few seconds. Depends on the size of the image.

I found that add add a BW pencil layer give more depth and simulteneasly make more clean and clear the sketch

But the use of the masks is intriguing
As example to merge different knind of stoke and fill for highlight midtone and shadow or for different objects )

But really took me too time adjust the parameters and wait the preview, i should try with smaller images.
