Like I mentioned...
Inkscape is much better at this kind of text manipulation then Gimp.

What takes me hours in Gimp can be done in minutes with inkscape.
Just getting the starting path's for the "Metallica" image.
Can take about an hour or more in Gimp.
I speed through it as fast as I can,
but there's no comparison to inkscape,
when it comes to manipulating text.

Wallace, I use a technique that's a bit faster, for me at least, than cleaning up the warped paths. I use the modified paths to create a selection, bucket fill, then use that filled layer as a guide to trace around with a new, clean path. It's not "fast". But it sure seems a lot easier than removing and adjusting hundreds of anchors. It's also still not as good as Inkscape.

Funny you mentioning this Sasquatch,
because that's the exact technique I use.

After running the text trough the Bend Curve fileter,
there is many anomalies to deal with

Great minds.... :yes

Every warping method I've used creates nasty paths. The "L" in my "Limitless" piece had something like 264 anchors in it after warping. I reproduced it with only 14 anchors. True, it still takes plenty of time and patience. But the first couple times I tried it by deleting and adjusting anchors. That was aggravating enough to make anybody psychotic.

but I'm happy you did.

We can still get our ideas across with Gimp.
There hasn't been anything "Yet" that I've had an idea for that I couldn't reproduce using Gimp.

Really good for me to witness this discussion, it's given me the peace of mind that I'm not going completely gaga and the confidence to work with more patience instead of always trying to find a 'quick fix', thank you guys.

Not so very long ago I was a huge fan of the 'quick fix'. Then I started noticing that many of my quick fixes were fixes for other quick fixes. Seems taking the time to figure out the right way is actually quicker in the long run.

I also found this discussion interesting and thought I would challenge myself by further investigatig different methods/filters I have used myself or which you guys have identified.

Well after much playing around I will show the best result I could achieve in a 'reasonable' amount of time -

... so my conclusion after this, is the same as that already stated - redo the paths after creating the desired perspective shape, then it seems to matter not which extrusion approach is used.

I wish there was a way to get a path into Curve Bend,
Map Object or even iWarp.
But then again,
you can probably do all this kind of path manipulation in inkscape.

Just returned from the Aussie bush, where we have seen dams full of water, caves full of water, rivers full of water and flowing fast, but sadly too for the farmers, fields full of water ruining their winter crops. Wettest winter in 40 odd years; so here is my comment in glass extruded text, using some words from the iconic poem by Dorothea Mackeller -
