I did not try your additional steps, Dinasset. Were you able to finish the tut completely?

Pat,
I'm currently writing the filter, it's under test.
Hopefully it will be released in 3-4 days.

I think I know what's wrong. I'm using paintbrush under stroke paths instead of stroke line. I never noticed the line options under stroke paths, until Wallace pointed them out to me, but that is where you find the sparse dots setting.

The dots are made due to the 800 to 1500px spacing of the brush used. Without this spacing, you wouldn't get the dots.

I set the spacing on the brush. I did not use stroke line.

I had forgotten about a very cool Script-fu called Voronoi path. It makes a very, very (did I already mention very?) clean mask for creating the mosaic tiles (much cleaner than Skeleton). Slow as molasses though. Your dot has to be ubber clean too, so once you stroke the dot, you need to run G'MIC dither to make the dot clean. Then you need to copy this and paste it as a selection mask. Then you need to convert the resulting selection into a path. Then you run Voronoi path to create the outline that you then stroke for the mask. :)

Also, Voronoi path scales up nicely; skeleton, not so much. :)

Thanks Pat; you must have ninja'd me and I didn't notice. lol

Anyway, for this one, I actually opened up the resulting vector mask in Inkscape and manually deleted all the spurious rods (and did miss a few which I did correct by paint brushing; lol). Lots and lots of work, but a learning experience none the less. :)

Lyle, the link to Voronoi path leads to Gimp Plug-in Registry, the version there is very likely a 32-bits one (downloaded but it doesn't work for me, 64-bits PC), the Samj link below doesn't work any more.
Where is it possible to download the 64-bits version? Just to give it a try.
Thanks

Hi Diego.

Voronoi-2.2_32bits-64bits_gimp-2.8_win

Edit: bad link
To be voronoi-path - no voronoi

@ MareroQ
downloaded and installed.
The problem is that it differs from voronoi-path (mentioned by Lyle), because it generates itself the dots, it does not take as input those already created

An update from my tries of using voronoi-path.
Good news and bad news:
- good news: after many attempts I succeeded in using the voronoi-path 32-bits version running (as called proc) on my PC 64-bits
- bad news: it is SO SLOOOOOW that I give up in releasing a second version of my Mosaic_Lyle_Style with voronoi-path replacing g'mic skeleton
We have to stay with the current version.....hehehe

I'm sorry for the mistake - this is not the plugin (Voronoi) have to Voronoi-path.
Perhaps attached will be better ...

thanks a lot, MareroQ.
Downloaded and rerplaced the existing one.
Unfortunately, it's still slooooow: 5 minutes to perform what Skeleton performs in a few seconds, so I keep the G'MIC Skeleton on my filter.
Thanks a lot for your help.

Indeed it is slow, Diego (not terribly on my PC but now where near ideal). lol

Skeleton's like instant. Just wish it was more clean. I've done various things to try to clean it up, but nothing's more clean than a path. :)

Lyle, ask Ofnuts -the magician of paths- whether he is willing to write his own script "voronoi-path" like.....
Maybe it's a challenge for him.

OK; this time, instead of stroking the path's from Mosaic helper, I just created a solid stroke and fed the result into Voronoi stippler to strategically distribute the dots. Gives more variety as far as tile size and placement is concerned imo. :)
