Graechan, thank you for the script and I like the effect you achieved in that second image here

I thought that increasing length of a brush relatively to font size would not look good, but you proved me wrong. It does look great!
I may change it in tutorial. But then again, who needs a tut, when such a handy scripts is available, thanks to you.

If I understood you correctly, this is not the final version yet?

@Akros, thanks for trying, great result considering the fact I'm not a good tutor!
I probably should have mentioned in the tut about font preferences, it does look better on bold fonts.
But since Graechan's taken over with his beautiful script, I just bail out of extra work

- sits well with my lazyness, lol

Got an idea to make a 'hybrid' kind of tutorial - pics and animated gifs.
So I re-wrote the whole thing. What do you guys think?
The uploaded gifs are very small in size (102, 111, 114, 103 and 106 kb), yet more informative
than just the pictures, imo.

GnuTux, I hope gifs are OK and storing them is no problem for your site or the server.

The original tutorial was very condensed and experienced gimp user-oriented. I was just too lazy to write down step by step instructions
and provide more screenshots.
Now I've fixed that and added much more visual material including GIFs.
I kinda like the idea to use gif animations in tutorials and gave it a go.
I might make another tut this way.

Recorded at 800x600 resolution but made gifs at 640x480 (gotta keep the 4:3 aspect ratio), hence,
there was some loss in quality but it's still good enough to make out gimp interface elements.
There are around 90 frames in each gif and it 'weighs' just a little over 100 KB. Cool, innit?

On the side note: I just opened a random tutorial on GC and counted 24 png images 1.5-1.7 MB each!
Same images in jpeg would have probably saved 25 MB of the website resources.
No wonder it takes 20 minutes to load such a page for those with slow Internet connection (Arran started the thread, IIRC)
Maybe make it a rule here? Jpegs where possible and optimize with Safe for Web or RIOT plugins?
