that is a fascinating effect, it looks like you are looking down into hollow letters, like looking into a house with the roof gone and semi-transparent walls

As a quick tip, you don't need the Clone Layer Tool script to achieve the extrusion look.

Simply select the motion blurred layer, and use the levels tool on the Alpha channel. Pull the white point input slider down until it is in the 9-12 range (to get it opaque, without becoming too aliased at the edges):

rob a: that's neat - using levels or curves makes more sense to me.

This isn't text, but I wanted to try Esper's last technique. Since his text made me think of a maze with transparent walls, I made this instead.

Erisian, your avatar is awesome! BTW, you wouldn't happen to be anywhere near Nottingham, would you?

I made two of them. One I made the ESP way, but substituted the 'clone-layer-tool.scm' with the 'multi-replicate.scm', (top image).
The other was made fowling 'Xgeous's' youtube video tutorial, ( bottom image).

You may be able to improve on the embossing by doing a 'grain extract' on a blurred duplicate layer of the image and then doing a 'grain merge', with this blurred layer.

I could try it if I had the original image to work with. It's like using a 'highpass filter', but with much more control over the blur and how it's blurred.

great usage of your trademark colours, Wallace ! :clap

very elegant !

im wondering if a combination of doing the perspective basetext in Inkscape and the rest in Gimp, could improve the effect

@Esper,
:tyspin
I've never used Inkscape, so I really don't have a clue. But doing it the youtube way leaves a lot of light-colored shadows on the text, that my be undesirable to some. I had to fix these anomalies in the image that I use the youtube tut with.

I used you tut, but applied other effects to it that hid some of the shadows left behind. There are still some shadows left over though...

There are more shadows in the image that were left un-highlighted.

I didn't quite follow your tutorial.I used the 3D Text script with these settings on the motion blur layer (no blur added though). Then i set the opacity real low.
After that i made a visible layer from all but the colored bg layer and dropped it on the bottom.Then i set its opacity even lower.

Image

Results turned out pretty good though. :)

A colored bg.

@Rod,

That look pretty good!
I do have the 3D script, but was trying to go with the tut. ;)
