akky it sounds like you have other resources running in the background try checking to see what else is running along side Gimp.Could be something you just installed that runs in the background?
Another possibility -
Maybe you have another program nestled withing Gimps directory (it will see it and run it), when Gimp loads and initializes.That includes any exe file.
Or you need to give Gimp more room to run its resources if you have added more to it lately such as brushes.
In that case try Gimps Uniform Resource Manager filter. (GURM)
You set it up once and your good to go for good.It isn't really that hard to do.Then you call what you want to run every session.So you could have all your patterns,gradients, and brushes in Gurms folders and call what you need when you need it.It doesn't work for plug-ins yet, but it makes Gimp run much,much faster.
