The xcf you posted is to one of the glass (transparent) ones. There is nothing to change on those. Both look great to me!
It's the opaque one (the non-transparent one) I was referring to needing minor changes to make it less like wax.

is that something made of more than one layer but merged down ??
or is it something bummapped ?

Fixed it.
I've re-named the two layers I moved up and to the left. I also added a mask on the second one.

Ideally, there shouldn't be any shadow on the side of the text closest to the light source in opaque (non-transparent) text.

Extra info (ignore if confusing):
The exception to the rule is wax, or frosted glass because with subsurface scattering, light does not bounce directly off the surface, but goes inward a bit, then bounces out from the inside (which is why your centered inner glow looked like wax).

It's the same as your inner glow layer just a blur of the original text. I think I also added a little airbrushed light to the top, just to make it look a bit more correct, since the blur tends to errode too much of the serifs (little tags on the ends of the letters). I also moved it up and to the right, like I did with your two inner-glow layers. My original file is huge, so I had to fake the effect without the benefit of bump-map.

Nice tutorial, one of these days I will remember to save selections to channels without following a tutorial! Glad I am having more time to try out tutorials again, and not to just be reading the boards quickly!

i already did that effect when i wrote the Ombre tutorial
but Efenston's script gave me the idea to show it as a standalone tutorial

and thanks to CRoger's input i was able to get finally something that looks like real glass
i would have never been able to do that without him and this thread !

there is now a win situation on three levels:
we have a great script, the effect is documented so that people know what it does and they could get it manually if they wanted, and CRogers pushed the boundaries
