Revisited…..and I still can't do it exactly as the tutorial, I have to fiddle around with it to get the globe round, I couldn't find it in my G'Mic, but I know it's there!

I have a new layer of metal 4bars and conical (sym) added ,then this layer placed behind the sphere and given a light blue color with a color overlay

If you want -but only if you want, obviously- dedicate more time to the "variations", you may at first use:
1 - either Graechan's script "Manhattan cript"
2 - or my script "Globe view" (original version or version 2)
then -by keeping the layers, i.e. not flattening the image- you may play as you like with existing or additional layers...
