I was recently asked how to draw a border around a selection area, so I decided to write this tutorial.

Four Ways to Draw a Border Around a Selection in GIMP

I discovered functionality I wasn't previously aware of while I was writing it. Cool!

Keep Calm and GIMP On!

Good 1 DD.

I only recently found selection > border and was also able to fill the selected border with a gradient.

Don’t be afraid to start over. It’s a new chance to rebuild what you want.

The fifth I use often is turn the selection into a path and stroke the path. This is especially helpful to eliminate jaggies on non-orthagonal sections.

Thanks for pointing that out, Rob. I've added a bonus method 5 to my article.
