#David
sorry if I bother you again on that subject
my problem now is the following:
- my main user has gimp 2.8 installed (i.s. the stable version) w/gmic 1.6.6
- on this environment I put my file "user.gmic" under (user1)/AppData/Roaming and I see properly all my filters
- on my secondary user I downloaded the portable version of gimp 2.9 (Partha edition) with gmic 1.6.5, to give a try
- it seems that the portable version does not look into (user2)/AppData/Roaming where I copied my user.gimp file; this sounds reasonable, because if it is a portable version everything should be inside the folder gimp 2.9 portable
but where?
Can you help me again?
Thanks

ps: if someone else knows the answer because in a similar situation, he/she is welcome

Hello dinasset,
I've no ideas :) Have you tried %APPDATA% as well ?
Maybe when running GIMP portable, the %APPDATA% environment variable is set to another (portable) folder ?

thanks David, but my problem is my ignorance: where do I find how the environment variable %APPDATA% is defined inside the portable gimp folder?
I have phisically to put my user.gmic file there, not to reference it.

You could:
Update Filters GMIC
Search for (software) gimp_update.lock
Check the date and time.

SOLVED
my last attempt solved the problem
in the portable Partha gimp version the file for the user defined filters should have the PREVIOUS NAME: simply gmic and not user.gmic

thanks for your attention to my problem

#David: I don't remember exactly which version introduced the new name, Partha's G'MIC compiled version is 1.6.5.0
did the name change only in 1.6.5.2?

In general it might be helpful to select Various->Custom code (global) and type in the Code window "-text $_path_user,50,0,15,1,0" and click at Update. If your image is not black you will see the necessary information!

Only once for all drives?
That would mean that this version GMIC is not possible to update!

The Windows GIMP 2.9 portable is currently broken. Please use the regular version while I fix it. Thanks for your patience.

yes, I wrote messages to Partha about it:
1-included G'mic is not as expected 1.6.6.0 pre but an old one (March)
I had to download the regular version, extract from there the two G'mic components and now it shows 1.6.6.0 pre (then I had to rename again my filters file as user.gmic)
2-but Gimp itself has something wrong in it: the rescale function makes colours disappear
