Hello folks,

Some good news to announce : With the help of some GIMP devs, I've managed to update the G'MIC plug-in code (for GIMP), so that it is now able to read/write image data from/to GIMP using high-bit depth buffers.
As you may know, GIMP 2.9 (development version) has introduced the possibility to choose the image precision among many different options, including 16bits and 32bits/channels precision. The G'MIC plug-in is now able to deal with these high-bit precision buffers, and as G'MIC does all its computation with float-valued data internally, you are sure not to loose any precision during the whole G'MIC pipeline.

I wrote a step-by-step instruction to test the newest version of the G'MIC plug-in (it requires a special compilation procedure for GIMP 2.9) here :

https://discuss.pixls.us/t/gmic-plug-in ... h-support/

Do not hesitate to test and give me feedback!

Cheers,

David.

No real report except to say it compiles here and works (so far). Used your directions with no problem (except a good few MB of git stuff and dev files)

System is: old X61 Thinkpad, 32 bit Linux Mint 17.2, Gimp 2.9.1 from otto-kesselgulasch ppa

My usual test image, changed to 16 bit floating, applied Gmic filter, saved.

Screenshot: the image re-opened. G'mic open
+ a terminal with IM identify. Yes, says 16 bit

Thanks for the report James. I hope everything goes well for you.
I see you are very active on the GIMP forum and you often suggest installing the G'MIC plug-in, so let me thank you again for spreading the word :)

David.

Not a problem, just a query.

Has the experiment ended? No https://github.com/dtschump/gmic-minimal

This is Gimp 2.9.3 & 32 bit int in Kubuntu and the last gmic-minimal I got. For Gimp 2.8?

edit: Forget this last bit. Forgot to disable a regular g'mic

Hello James, the git repo 'gmic-minimal' have been merged recently with the repo 'gmic'
(size of the latter repo has been shrink to a reasonnable size).
You should be able to clone repo 'gmic' just as well. Let me know.

I compiled it (without opencv) and tested the gimp plugin with Win10 64Bit. I tested it with a 16Bit TIF.
It works great!
Thanks a lot!
Hatti
