My previous version of GMIC was 1.7.9.

I downloaded version 2.1.1 - Linux 64 bits: .zip archive from http://gmic.eu/download.shtml.
I installed it at ~/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins/ and made it executable.

When I start gimp from the command line I get the following errors:
... gmic_gimp_qt: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgomp.so.1: version `GOMP_4.0' not found ...
... gmic_gimp_qt: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6: version `CXXABI_1.3.8' not found ...

I find both:
locate /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6
locate /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgomp.so.1

If I search for libgomp in synaptic package manager, it says version 4.8.4.

Software: Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa, gimp 2.8.22

What am I missing?

A newer version of Mint. Mint 17 = ubuntu trusty.

The gmic_gimp_qt version needs more recent libraries.

However, the gmic_gimp_gtk version works fine.

Hallo, I was struggling as well to install the 2.x versions of G'mic on my Xubuntu 17.04 system with Gimp 2.9.x. Last week I decided to upgrade to 17.10 via a new install on the root directory (so /home was kept intact). The first thing I did was to install Gimp 2.8, the second thing was installing g'mic in several locations (in /home/config/..., /usr/share/..., /usr/lib/....). That did not work.

So then I installed Gimp 2.8 via that well-known ppa by Thorsten Stettin and gmic for gimp via Xubuntu's package manager Synaptic. That did the trick!

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:otto-kesselgulasch/gimp
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install gimp

to install the gmic_gimp_qt plugin:
$ sudo apt-get install gimp-gmic

I'm very happy because the new qt versions is a pleasure to use.

Hope this helps!

gmic_gimp_gtk did indeed work. Thanks.

Linux Mint 17.3 is a Long term support release (LTS), supported until April 2019.
We have been delaying kde5/plasma, systemd, and new hardware. But it is becoming increasingly hard to stay current with applications w/out updating the entire system it seems. I've used the krita and scribus appimage successfully. I am experimenting with opensuse on VM's.

I run Kubuntu 16.04 which is LTS (for a couple more years) I used PClinuxOS for years, really miss a rolling distro.

But this is in older stuff ;)
I am not a fan of installing Gimp plugins into /usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/ IMHO Gimp plugins for your own use should be in your Gimp profile.

However https://launchpad.net/~otto-kesselgulas ... buntu/gimp does contain a gmic_gimp_qt ver. 2.0.4 for 'Trusty'

This in my Bodhi netbook, based on 'buntu trusty same as mint17. Pulls in several dependencies as:

Amounts to about 40 MB of files.

Does it work, yes but even the most recent from the otto-kesselgulasch was a month ago. A long time in gmic terms. You also get a warning about updates ;) (edit: oops wrong image)

On the other hand the latest 2.1.2 pre. GTK version also works. The only thing missing is the search option.

Just installed 2.1.6-pre; Really like the new super-pixels preset. I used it to just create a mask and other things for this result (click here for details). :)
