My GIMP's Best Friend is DropIt!

For those who have not heard of it, DropIt! Is a drag and drop file manager. An extremely versatile FILE MANAGER ( too versatile to explain here ) and a FREE FILE MANAGER.

I have used DropIt! For many years, mostly with archiving documents and images. The last few years have proven DropIt! to be invaluable when it comes to GIMP, MyPaint, GimpPainter etc.

I have posted comments regarding DropIt! On a few occassions but never received positive feedback.

These are some of the benefits attained from using DropIt!:

1 Creating lists of resources in .txt .html etc. ( with search and click to locate, view or run. )

2 Creating archives for .ttf .gbr .scm and all those other resources you lose track of into .7z .zip .exe folders.

3 It is fully capable of handling any file extesion you throw at it, although files with no extension can be a nuisance.

4 You can create a single archive folder containing other defined folders and drag the master sub-folders to DropIt!

5 You can drag the entire GIMP folders to archive defined file extensions to individual acrhive folders.

6 There are no limitaions that I know of regarding handling.

7 Search patterns are able to be customised by user for file names such a *metallic* and *final.xcf

An example of my archive folders:
ARCHIVE

A-GIMP Brush
A-GIMP Script
A-GIMP Dynamic
A-GIMP Tutorials
A-Scripting Resources
A-707 Files
A-Autonomous Documents

For my own purposes, I prefer to store saved web pages such as TUTORIALS and SCRIPT posts and create an html list enabling fast searching and access to specific needs. This applies to .scm and .py scripts also, as the can be immediately located and opened by an editor. Images and .XCF files can be located and loaded into GIMP in seconds. There are options for file and folder handling.

While GURM and Add-on collection manager are useful in GIMP, DropIt! Is very useful both in and out of GIMP ( many other applications also. )

The only thing I can suggest is take the plunge and try it, It's FREE and EASY to use. One suggestion though, SET THE OPTIONS UP FIRST and be sure to set duplicate handling to ignore (default is rename and 785,652 duplicated images take up a lot of space and time, especially when deleting. ;-}

TEST IT IN AN UNRELATED FOLDER BEFORE COMMITTING TO PRACTICAL USE.
