Hello, i'm trying to emulate/recreate the generative texturing process of something like substance designer within gimp/g'mic + blender(plus a bit of krita and awesome bump too).
I find it pretty amazing what is possible to achieve going back and forth between both apps, in terms of creating realistic texture maps using generators/filters only.

One crucial part of creating meaningful masks seems to be the ability to extract a cavity map and a smooth curvature map from a given normal map.
the attached file is the normal map of the texture i'm working on, with the cavity and smooth curvature extracted in blender's compositor...but they tend to leave heavy seams, not great for seamless textures.

I wonder if something like this process is possible in g'mic, or if an existing filter does something similar? If one of the g'mic wizards would like to tackle the problem it would be awesome too!

Any ideas?

Hi jeebs,
Have a look at G'mic > Lights & shadows > relief light
You get some sliders to change the lighting of your material.
