Gmic has a original layer mode "edge merging" ..here a little experiment

As final image, i am not too happy
i would edit to eliminate or attenuate the effect at the top and here and there , to reveal more the temple...

but i want to show the exact merging result
The point of this layer mode is preserve and combine the edges of both images and seems doing well
(...As for the other Gmic layer modes there is not the opacity control , but you may control the "smootness" of the FX.

i suppose this shoud be better in the plugin board, sorry

So this filter finds the straight edges of both images and merges them like a composition?

Got 'er moved, PC! Thanks for the heads up. Now to try that process. First gotta find me something to merge.

when you try make attention to the gmic input/output options (are just below the preview )

as input option , default "active layer" will not work because you need at least 2 layer
..so you may want to chose "active and below", or " visible layers"

As output option i will change default with "new layer "

Took the green bubble image I made with RobA's script, generated another one with bokeh stars and used the edge merging filter. Not the best in the west, but still very interesting results. I really like the edge merging filter. You have two images you want to combine and there's no worry about removing bg.

Hi all - new to the forum.

I had a go at using this technique and would like to share the results.

I had this image lying around on my HD for a while (created using Gmic).



I decided to merge the above image with this one - it's a Celtic knot (created using a program called Knots3D and then loaded into Gimp and processed with Gmic).



Results of Gmic "Edge Merging".



Just for fun, I used the Gmic>Artistic>Painting filter on the above image and then ran the Gmic>Lights & Shadows>Relief Light filter.

Definitely a cool way of creating alternative Amazing circles Flesh.

I performed another experiment.

First image (created using the Render>Fractal Explorer filter in gimp, kaleidoscoped and then processed with the Gmic>Lights & Shadows>Relief Light filter).



Second image (created using similar techniques).



Results of Gmic "Edge Merging" (BTW I ran some heavy Gmic smoothing on this image and then processed it with the Gmic>Lights & Shadows>Relief Light filter. This seemed to help the images to blend/melt together).

I used a Halloween mask with a transparent bg over a layer filled with a fire pattern.

Very cool results!
