Hi guys, I'm a G'MIC newbie who want G'MIC on GIMP. I went to the G'MIC website and got the dmg for the Mac Mavericks version. As instructed, I opened the dmg and put gmic_gimp into library/application support/GIMP/2.8/plug-ins. I launched GIMP and checked my filters, but G'MIC did not show up.

Then I tried putting the gmic_gimp file into applications/gimp.app/contents/resources/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins. I relaunched GIMP, and yet G'MIC still did not show up.

I have no sign whether G'MIC even properly installed. G'MIC is not working on my 64-bit Mavericks (10.9) Mac. Any help?

To find out if G'MIC is installed, Help | Plug-in Browser | search for g'mic.
G'MIC should be located at the bottom of the Filters menu.

I checked the Plug-In browser and G'MIC was not there (No matches found). G'MIC was not located at the bottom of the filters menu.
Maybe the installation went wrong. Are there any other files or folders I have to make in order for G'MIC plugin to work properly?

Most probably you don't have the most recent version of Gimp from GimponOSX! Verify that first, if that is ok, than control the preferences of Gimp Folder->plugins. There should be the path on top of the list to the folder where you have copied gmic_gimp (btw not gmic!!! The latter is the command version only working with several libraries from MacPorts installed)

I checked, and I'm assuming that the latest version is 2.8.10... which I have.

I went to the Preferences and checked the Plug-Ins section. The paths were correct. I tried re-entereing both paths and restarting GIMP, but to no avail. Weird...

That is quite interesting, since the original Mavericks Gimp from GimponOSX has the gmic plugin inbuilt. Only the version is not recent. You should once more look into the filter menu. Gmic is at the bottom greyed out. This will change if a feasible image is open!

It could be some antivirus/security software... I'll check that.
I'll also reinstall GIMP to make sure.

This is my filters bar.

Have a look at this tutorial and thread, Subject: Adding G'MIC to Mac OS X 10.6.7 for some ideas.

I reinstalled GIMP to see if it was working, and quit. Then I put gmic_gimp into the plug-ins folder again. When I opened GIMP I saw this!

This just confuses me!

And G'MIC still doesn't show up in the filters!

I tried getting Partha's build of GIMP which had G'MIC pre-installed. However, G'MIC still did not show up. Weird...

I know nothing about MACs and I don't know if this is related to your problem but I thought I'd bring it up anyway.

G'MIC uses an older version of libpng (libpng1.2.x). In Linux, if I don't have the older version of libpng installed G'MIC doesn't appear. I get the same results as you are seeing. G'MIC is installed in the correct location and is queried by GIMP, but it doesn't run.

libpng home: http://www.libpng.org/pub/png/libpng.html

MacPorts: http://ethan.tira-thompson.com/Mac_OS_X_Ports.html

Is there a way to start GIMP from a command console on a MAC? If so, you might see the error generated when G'MIC is queried, which could point you to the problem.

Hope that helps!

... just returning from vacation!
Sorry that you have still problems, which I don't understand.

Both Gimp builds (GimponOSX and Patha's) have a gmic plugin in build. If you don't see gmic in the Filters menu in either one of the builds your system (or account) is corrupted.

Try to use another account (poss. non-admin) and start Gimp! If still the gmic entry does not appear something with your system is not in order. Get in this case rid of all Gimpses and entries ~/Library/Applications Support/GIMP and reinstall Gimp from dmg, preferrably from GimpOnOSX, otherwise gmic_gimp will not run, it is linked against that Gimp.

Next tips follow until the virgin Gimp application shows the gmic entry in a virgin account!

Your filter bar is what shows up when you have downloaded the 32bits version (gives Python-view etc) G'mics apparently needs 64bits, and will then show as G'mic in filter bar.
