There are already several plugins for layer grouping for Gimp3:

1. After a discussion on Gimp-Forum.net
https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-My-Gi ... ted-layers
the user Newman [aka: newinput] has provided a plugin [group-selected-layers.py]
https://github.com/newinput/gimp3_plug- ... ted_layers

2. Group Selected Layers by Mark Sweeney [layer-group.scm]
https://script-fu.github.io/funky/hub/p ... yer-Group/

I couldn't find a plugin that did the opposite (i.e. ungroup a group of layers), so I wrote my own for Gimp 3 (based on Ofnuts' ofn-ungroup-layers plugin for Gimp 2)

In menu: Layer ➤ Stack ➤ Ungroup Layers

I have that already installed, worth a look at the code to see how it uses library functions.

Hi Rich.
Thanks for the test and feedback.
You surprised me again - this time with your interest in Sanskrit (as you once very nicely called the language Scheme and Script-Fu) :hehe

Yeah, hate all those brackets and reverse arithmetic. Lists - crazy. However, for a couple of tiny every-day utilities - a resize down with a little sharpen and a quick export with reduced quality, which were python in Gimp 2.10 but way too verbose as python in Gimp 3
...but I am looking at your example plugins here and the test plugins from pixls.us and it is starting to make sense.
