Kind of a Biased Vote as this is a GIMP Site but no matter what
Anyone know if you can install themes in PS?

I just wanted to quote that because it deserves to be a quote.

I used to teach digital photography, including PS and PSP. I dumped them all for Gimp, because of cost, for the benefit of my students. But as I started using Gimp, more and more, I found it is actually superior to PS in some aspects. The two words that ring in my mind, are "Open Source"! Because it is open source, there are additional functions being added to Gimp, all the time. My fave being G'MIC, closely followed by Mathmap.

I agree with you PM, not to mention much easier for me to use (i.e., doesn't take a rocket scientist to use, but a little smarts does help. ). Thanks to people like David R (G'MIC) and RobA, it's definitely a contender for anyone's arsenol imo.

I think that neither of these programs is really the issue. What counts is what you do with the program, how well you can use the tools at hand. Photoshop may have more ability than gimp, but from what I have seen, gimp users are good at what they do. Very supportive. Very creative. Just very good all in all.

So whether or not PS is better than gimp, when looking at artwork/designs, we will always be asking the same question: "Was that photoshop or gimp?"

But I have to disagree about the fact that Photoshop has more abilities. Currently it may, but GIMP is opensource and people like David and Photocomix are always adding things to add more abilities to GIMP every day.

Does anyone know if PS has something equivellant to the Video Software created by PC? (sorry can't remember the name)

Since i could never in a hundred years afford Photoshop and wouldn't pay that asinine price for it even if i could, it doesn't exist for me so this is a pointless question.

lol well like i said gimp is allot easier to use i got use to gimp the very first day i installed it and learned tons of things by tutorials

To be honest i have to say i prefer Gimp because its flexible,free, and loads much quicker in my honest opinion.

Why?
If you ask a client which they prefer you to use on their projects - you better have at least one version of PS.
Almost every client i have had insists on the Adobe suite of programs because they are able to send the PSD's out for editing at any later date.
They do not use Gimp usually, and to date they prefer their employed graphic artists do not either.

Sorry but that's just the way the industry standard is at this time.

So true Rod; the little time that I was in the Offset printing business, Photoshop and Quark were King. Also, a lot of folk like non-destructive (I hate that term; I prefer self-documenting) edits which currently is pretty much impossible with the current version of GIMP. I prefer to Gonzo edit anyway (i.e., do what it takes to get the look that you are after).

I agree with this comment, too.

There are two huge differences! The first is the price point between them, and the second is the thought processes of each products users. In other words, the two products are pretty equal, it's the user that makes the difference.

thats true and with gimp u can add scripts and all kinds of stuff to make it better

Was just checking, and Gimp is always open on my computer on one of my workspaces. Closed a picture that had been open 145 hours. I never close the program. Gotta love it.

That's the thing, even though Gimp doesn't come out with many versions too quickly, it is always growing because of the many many great script writers who put their time in to help everyone using Gimp.
Those guys are sorta like the backbone of Gimp.Just when you think the registry is slowing down BOOM! 3 more plug-ins are added.

Willy i do not believe you can change the theme in PS.At least i have never tried. Hrmmmmmmmm

You can not change PS themes or interface at all.

Too bad; i guess that's just another thing Gimp has PS doesn't.
