Fractal Explorer (the Windows version) runs in Wine, but its rendering time is seriously limited if you have less than 4 gig of RAM. It has a serious laggy delay when rendering for me on the laptop (2 gig), but that problem is non-existent on my 8 gig desktop.

Your point about using Gimp's FE is well taken, i hadn't used it that way before. I tried Xaos and it didn't impress me. Apophysis did impress me, a lot, but time after time i tried and can't get anywhere the results i've seen in their galleries Example 1 Example 2 Exmple 3. I have gotten good results with fYre but my favorite is still FE.

GMS just so you know, atleast that first one is done by someone who has spent years of their life mastering Apo

I guess, if you really look at it from a similar perspective, I didn't care for GIMP the first few times I used it either. It was just too overwhelming and not enough resources (at the time). Maybe Apophysis might eventually "grow" on me, but as of now, it's just too much effort to get a little bit of "wow!"

One of the reasons I loved using Electric Sheep is that stunning fractals just manifested from the pool of users, with relatively little effort.

I can make simple stuff with Apophysis, then fool with them to make some neat stuff, but just making it all in Apophysis isn't happening for me yet.
