Welp, getting past that assigning of editor in the Windows version is what we're looking at. I wanted to see what the process entailed in the Linux version, perhaps there is a tweak possibility.

:gaah I just found out the hard way why my other plug-ins weren't working. My Linux GIMP is 64 bit, and was just reading up that they required 32 bit programs to run, all this time I was thinking it was due to a glitch in PSPI. I should have figured that out when using both 32 and 64 bit Ubuntu installations. Up to this point, most plug-in developers state on their websites that the plug-ins will not work on 64 bit programs, ha! Windows allows you to run alternate versions, Linux 64 won't permit you to install 32 bit programs (unless there is a trick I am unaware of) because every time I chose the 32 bits accidentally, the terminal will tell me its incompatible.

Is not a dll issue ? PS plugin sometime need 2 dll (see my post for the link and were to place )

i mean many good linux sw have yet only 32 bit version...seems strange there is not a backward compatibilty mode,
In gimp 64 bit is included (or most of the even bundled plugin will not work )

I'm using Lucid on both computers, laptop is 32, desktop is 64, both are running side by side with Windows, (laptop has Vista, desktop has Win 7) I have another older desktop with nothing but Lucid, (32 bit).

Yes, I was aware of the necessary dll files and had previously added those to my .wine drive_c system32 folder. But if the plug-ins won't run in 64 bit GIMP, not much you can do about it. End of story. However, the only filters/plug-ins I really give a hoot about, are the ones I pay for, and I have those running on all computers (with the exception of Flaming Pear plug-ins - they aren't working on either Linux systems - only in Windows).

Flaming Pear will run on Xnview in Ubuntu 64, but sure does act like it doesn't want to. I had to dig up my activation codes for it (made me chuckle when I saw the date - 2005). Sometimes, it will boot up and have no buttons to control the UI, other times it displays fine.

activation code that is why i didn't reinstall yet
first i have to found the plugin back-up dvd,(on newer the activation will not work) then found my codes (hopefully in the same DVD

Never , never back up 500GB of HD, and then label the DVDs as "back up 1" ,"back up 2"...when i did i should have forgotten to first switch on the brain cells, then start the back up

LOL@PC!
Deep Paint is another good program for photo shop filters (8bf's)
I run most of mine through there. I believe you can only obtain the Windows 2000/xp versions though.

Nope this version is free (no trial its 2.0), the Deep Paint 3-D is real expensive though. =)

@mahvin,
I use Gentoo Linux for ~6 years.
Before that I had most major distro's.
I don't know what binary distro's do installation wise
but in Gentoo you have a choice of pure 64 or "multilib".
Multilib makes it possible to run 64 ans 32 software side by side.
I have a hunch that multilib is either default or can be chosen with binaries.
Gerard.

I'm just 3 months into using Linux (with limited prior experience before). I actually became interested in using Linux when I would run across plug-ins at the Registry that were only available for Linux. So about a year ago, I used Virtualbox to add Karmic, but I rarely used it. A little over 3 months ago, I was sooooo tired of Win 7 crashing in the middle of my GIMP sessions (the only time it ever crashed) I decided to jump ship and take on Ubuntu full-time. I'm never going back to Windows, so... I'm pushing myself to learn as much about Linux as I can. What I can't run with Wine or compile in Linux will get left behind.

I'm not aware of multilib, but I figured if it were default on my system it would allow me to choose 32 bit apps. But it's not, it's telling me (via terminal and deb installs) that they are incompatible and to choose the proper version. Now, if you're telling me I should be able to via multilib, I guess I am going to need to investigate it further (and will need more info). Thanks.

Hi mahvin,
If you really want to get aquainted with Linux then Gentoo is the best distro.
The documentation is excellent and so is their forum.
Gentoo is not a "point and click" to install distro, you use the command line.
Compared to binary distro's the big advantage of Gentoo is that you install only what you need.
You can install Gentoo from any "live cd/dvd".
I'd suggest systemrescuecd.
http://www.gentoo.org
http://www.sysresccd.org
To get an idea what installing entails read the handbook on the Gentoo site.
I am a member of their forum under the same nick as here.
Have a good day,
Gerard.

GIMP still locks up occasionally (Win7 64-bit with 32-bit GIMP). Weird for sure. What bothered me more is the PSPI issue with 6.11. Not sure what the developers are doing; not a programmer. Still my comfort zone is Windows, but, I do have a few plugins that I take Ubuntu for a spin occasionally. :)

Hy lylejk (and or Photomaster )
i believe was you having problems to run in Linux the Flaming Pear plugims with xnview

well a good new
Try again, and do not be discouraged by the empty interface that you will see at first
Sure it seems discouraging no sliders no preview...but you should see the flaming pear icon (that is the button to display the "about" with name of plugin and link to flaming pear

CLICK ON THE FP ICON...and magically all sliders and preview will reappear !!
(work with most of them...alas not with a 2 or 3)

It was me. I checked it out. UI was working fine this time around. However, the registered code didn't stick, I had to register Flaming Pear, again. Thanks, PC! :)
