Selection Transparency *SOLVED*

I understand layer transparency, but I searched and searched to find a way to change the transparency of a selected area. Just the selected area. I am missing it, or is it impossible?

That's an interesting question.

If you add an alpha channel to an image,
it becomes part of the image information.
As far as I'm aware of,
there's no way of adding an alpha channel/transparency to individual pixels,
such as with a selection.

What is it that you're trying to accomplish anyway?

likely thru duplication of the layer, mask the duplicated layer with white on the selection area and black the non selected area

You could just erase the selection area also.

Use a layer mask.

Layer Mask! That is it. Sad thing is, I knew about layer masks, but didn't realize that is what I was trying to do. By using diferent shades of gray, you create a different opacities for a selected area. Thank you.

Or you could change the color of the selection by using the Curves dialog, while in Quick Mask and then deleting after exiting quick mask.
