I have to rant or I'll go off th deep end and kick small furry animals. Since the first time I saw Gimp I've been hooked on it but we seem to have this love hate relationship going on. If Gimp has one thing about it that I can't stand it's that every thing in it is in separate windows and is scattered all over the place. I use two monitors and at first thought it was cool to keep all of my pallets and tool bars on one monitor while I have the other one with the main window maximized on the other. Eventually I found that I just prefer it if everything is in one place so I put it all on my main monitor. Ok, great. What really makes me mad is always every few seconds I have to resize the main window. Every change to the drawing means that I have to resize and reposition the window, sometimes I spend more time moving and resizing windows than I do working on the drawing. I've been through every setting I can think of in preferences with no results. I've saved window positions, set it to save on exit, everything I can think of and still I spend more time resizing windows and dragging them out from under my main tool window. I WISH I knew how to make them sit still. I feel a little better now and all the small furry animals in the neighborhood can rest easier.

I hear your frustration. It is my understanding that gimp 2.8 will be an all-in-one desktop. Users will have the option of the 3-window option too.

My favorite trick is to click outside a gimp window and have them all minimize to the taskbar. I've gotten pretty good at avoiding that but I still do it occasionally.

I've heard that about 2.8 too, I hope it's true, if it is then Gimp will only have one annoying thing left to it.

I don't know if you've seen this, but some of those features are awesome.

didn't someone, maybe photocomix, make a virtual pin program...and would that keep the various windows sized and placed where you wanted them to stay?

I have that little stick pin thingy but I don't find it that helpful cuz it does keep the window at the top but when you have to go back and forth to the tool windows it is a nuisance. It does stay permanently in your taskbar and easy to get at though...
