I propose we have a Winter Avatar challenge. The object of the challenge is that everyone creates (using GIMP, of course) their personal Winter avatar. The avatar can be based on any concept that involves winter (e.g. Christmas, cultural mythology, snowmen, etc.).

I know there is a lot of talent here. Plus, I needed some inspiration (and motivation). What say you?

If you are all game, I am looking forward to seeing your art!

OK Mahvin; put myself on ice just for a little while. lol

Did cheat a little; used Eyecandy3 (which I downloaded here several years ago; free too), but did do so in GIMP. lol Used Supernova for the lighting part. :)

edit: as a side note, I posted this at another forum (linking only out of respect for the originator). Started doing ice sculptures a few years ago. :)

Will get my thinking cap on. Sounds like fun. :hehe

Really, really don't want it to be winter yet though.

Thanks, Molly. I've actually been a "Gimper" for a couple of years now, but just recently found this forum via Twitter.

I'm in! Maybe an ice sculpture? (I'm a couple of years older now than in my source picture, but the gray in my beard isn't so noticeable here, LOL!)

Took my original photo, desaturate with average, posterize to 4 colors, then colorize to get the blue. Added plastic-wrap filter to get the shiny highlights. Then smudge and blur. My sculptor is inspired by Molly's little stick dancer, but I got carried away. ;)

I remember doing that one PM. Love it and that Nadie Zenith filter is great and fun. I still have that cap saved so I can use it on more Xmas balls.... Glad you posted it again.

@PM, Love your ornaments! I am especially intrigued by the art on CoolOrnament? Care to share the technique(s) that produced the design? BTW, I got your tut on making the ornaments, I think my relatives are going to get a nice surprise over the holidays...

@Molly, Thanks for the compliment. Not that I think I deserve a statue - even in ice. :lol

Because of my hard drive crash, I had to look to my Flickr account to find how I made the sphere.
I made it with Incendia a while ago and haven't reinstalled Incendia yet.

I did and it didn't. :(

Incendia is a fractal program, that if I remember correctly is free. Once I find my installs I'll confirm that it's free.
