Hello I'm Jess, I am fairy new to editing, but I am enjoying the things I have learned so far.
I have got the 2.8 gimp and a bridge camera to play with also. I live by the seaside and the countryside, so good photo opportunities to start with :)
I have 2 dogs as well, I like taking pictures of them.
Yesterday I was watching a YouTube tutorial on how to get the dragan effect. So today I thought I'd have a go.
Until the 1st thing I needed wasn't there to use? (advanced tone mapping) I have spent an entire evening reading and trying to work out what I need to do. I am guessing I need a plug-in of some type but I cant find what I am looking for. And then I got side tracked into plug-ins and tried to download one to learn about how they work etc. But it was no good! Maybe one of you pros might be able to help me?? please.

Did try to put a link to the YouTube tutorial but it wont let me! But if you can help its
GIMP Tutorial - Dragan Effect by Billy Kerr

So much to learn :) Keeping my brain active

Hi Jess,

in the description of the video is a link to the Advanced Tone Mapping script:
http://registry.gimp.org/node/5980

you need to download the .scm file and put it in your user-folder for scripts, then refresh or restart your Gimp

for windows thats under
C - > User -> .gimp 2.8 -> scripts

Or try G'MIC GIMP plug-in and try Graphic Novel or Boost. :) PC was able to achieve this effect with G'MIC filters i believe. The National Geographic Script by Elsamuko is promising also.

Welcome to Gimp Chat by the way. :)

Thank you all for the welcome.
With some help from Molly today and the links posted above I did finally get my "advanced tone mapping" and I completed the tutorial I wanted to try. Its not the best, but ok for my first effort. I think I might do it all over again and see if I can get it any better.

:clap Jess x
