Hi all!

I have been meaning to try out GIMP for a little while now that I have been considering making my own graphics.

I have done some reading up and it seems a lot of users on this community download the original GIMP and add their own add-ons. My question is do you recommend this when starting out with GIMP and also is adding add-ons hard? I use Mac.

Or I heard good things about the McGimp build and am currently considering downloading that version for a quick start to GIMP.

Any advice or recommendations are welcome! I hope to be an active member on this site, seems very fun and a great resource of information.

If you use MAC you may want to try http://www.Partha.com for the McGIMP version that he compiles.

As far as add ons are you referring to new scripts and plug-ins written by users or are you referring to themes?

You'll get lots of help here. Just ask the questions. As for Mac and add-ons you will have to ask people who use them.
EDIT - I see Rod already answered your question.

I use windows and adding scripts and plugins are fairly simple once you get the hang of it.
Some actually go as far as writing their own code to use with gimp or (G'MIC which is a plugin). I am no where near that clever.
Although if you have got one of the latest gimps it should already have G'MIC with it.

NDloot: welcome to gimp chat ! i'm not a mac user, so i suppose i shouldn't come with recommendations, but installing new scripts and plug-ins is fairly straightforward no matter what os you're working on.
