Hi to all!
Very excited to have found this site and am looking forward to participating fully. I've now been working with GIMP for about five years after starting out with Photoshop. Still pretty much a newbie with a lot of questions. Here's one. What exactly does the "Selective Gaussian Blur" filter do, what is "selective" about it? What is "Maximum Delta"?

I've been following the directions in a video tutorial for converting a photo into a watercolor and am getting the appropriate effects (I guess), but I would like to understand the "how" and "why" of this filter. Thanks for any hints.

"Contrary to the other blur plug-ins,
the Selective Gaussian Blur plug-in doesn't act on all pixels:
blur is applied only if the difference between its value,
and the value of the surrounding pixels is less than a defined Delta value."

Taken form gimp documentation (link below).
