:welcome to gimp chat, luci11, nice to meet you! i'm sure someone will show up with some really valuable advice, but in the meantime here's what i think you could try: duplicate the image, then cut out the person in the foreground using a mask or a selection tool (there are good tutorials for that on here if you're not used to masking or selecting). change the image of the person separately (try colours/levels or just play with hue, saturation and intensity or something), then add the person as a new layer to the old image and see if that looks acceptable. usually it takes a lot of tries to make it look good, but it's somewhere to start :).

:ninja yes, you should post the picture if possible.

well thats too bad

then you have to try it out on your own - follow AnMal´s advice
you must somehow make a selection around the person who is too dark
you could use the free select tool or the quick mask and then apply the changes the picture needs

maybe you want to read a few descriptions of the tools

http://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-tool-free-select.html
http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/Quickmask/

or have a look at these tutorials by tutor4u
he makes very easy to understand video tutorials, that will help you to grasp the basics real quick

Welcome to GimpChat luci.

The others have pointed you to good resources to solve the problem, and here's another: http://blog.meetthegimp.org/episode-5-a ... rint-shop/ which uses layer masks to achieve adjustments to different parts of the image.

And I just remembered an example I did a while ago, experimenting with someone's image, where I used a path to select the subject and isolate it from the background: http://forum.meetthegimp.org/index.php/ ... l#msg11003

Sorry about that luci. We've had an upsurge of spammers and new members have to have at least 5 posts before they can put in links now. You have 4 posts so far, luci. Just post one more time and you will be able to post a link to your image or post your image.
