Been using the gimp for about 8 years or so. Still stupidly impressed with its freeness over the competition, it always gets the job done.

Im here because im trying to get some stuff professionally printed, as ive got money sunk in to the printing, I want to make sure its going to be right.

all I do, which is probably the wrong thing, is to set my pic size to the inches I want, then set the resolution to 300 ppi, and then create it. When I print, I do not use gimp, i either take it to a printer and tell them what size i want, or I print with the computer's default printing program.

I do exactly what 2-ton does. Most of what I make, I make in 300 dpi. Dimensions in inches. The only drawback to that is the odd pixel size that results from working in inches.

Hello licozadejade, you are welcome! I'm very new here too. I found this fantastic group by chance and now I feel in Gimp-Chat among friends. ;)

ek22, thinking about the odd pixel size, I think it might work to set the inches, then change it back to pixels after you take note of the numbers.

Thanks for all the welcome messages.

Yes I think setting to 300dpi instead of the crazy high 772 would be more sensible. I really cant imagine they can reproduce the 772dpi quoted to me for a vinyl banner in the real world
